Montana Tech TRIO Scholarship Descriptions
TRIO MTUB and UBMS programs are pleased to announce the availability of four scholarships designated for expenses of the college or university of your choosing during the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters. By applying, you will be considered for all of the following scholarships.
Montana Tech Gold Access Scholarships
Montana Technological University Gold Access Scholarship was established to provide high-ability, highly committed students a two semester tuition waiver at Montana Tech. This scholarship is awarded to the top applicant from each TRIO program hosted by Montana Tech.
Upward Bound Spirit Award
The Upward Bound Spirit Award was established by the TRIO Upward Bound Student Government to reward graduating seniors who actively participate in TRIO academies and activities. This scholarship is funded by the local fundraising efforts by TRIO scholars.
The Fran Rader Memorial TRIO Scholarship
The Fran Rader Memorial TRIO Scholarship was established in remembrance of its namesake, who participated in one of the first Upward Bound Summer Academies in Montana in 1965. Her time in TRIO had a profound effect on her life as she learned the importance of higher education, and it fostered in her a deep sense of community. She dedicated her time to the service of others through a lifelong commitment to civic engagement. This award honors a TRIO student who balanced their high school studies with volunteering their time and skills to those in need in their community.
Coordinators’ Choice Award
Established in 2020, this scholarship is funded by the Upward Bound Coordinators. This scholarship is awarded to the Upward Bound Scholar who has shown dedication to the program, exceeded expectations, and embodies the true meaning of being an Upward Bound Scholar.

Montana Tech Gold Access Scholarship Application
The TRIO Talent Search (TS) program at Montana Technological University is pleased to announce the availability of one (1) Montana Tech Gold Access Scholarship. This scholarship is a tuition waiver for a total of two (2) semesters.

Montana Technological University has a special obligation to the youth of Butte. It’s our goal to put more of the city’s sons and daughters on the path to a college degree and a bright future. Many of these young men and women will be the the first in their families to attend college. We want to give them the chance to BE THE FIRST! They have what it takes to succeed, mirroring the qualities that make Butte itself such a special place: strong family values, a tireless work ethic, a purposeful, goal-oriented outlook and a knack for getting things done.
The Silver Bow Tavern Association has announced the recipients of the 2022 SBTA Scholarship. This is the 6th year that SBTA has sponsored scholarships for five Butte High or Butte Central seniors who are registered to attend Montana Tech or Highlands College in the fall of 2022.
This year’s recipients, Nicholas Verlanic, McKenzie Case, Kaitlyn Salvagni, Joseph Sholey, Jordyn Bolton, James Kinsey & Evan Pentacost all received financial support based on their academic standing, co-curricular activities, community service, integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity.
We had thirteen highly motivated and qualified applicants for this year’s scholarship and were very impressed by their applications, academic excellence & obvious service to others.
The five scholarships are funded by the dues that Association members pay and was established to provide financial assistance to deserving students from the Butte community. To date the SBTA has provided a total of $37,000 in scholarships to our local students.
Counselors from Butte High, Butte Central, & Highlands College promote the program to students that they feel are deserving of this recognition.
Montana Tech’s TRIO Student Support Services extends a big thank you to the Silver Bow Tavern Association for continuing this scholarship that recognizes our newest Orediggers for their hard work.
Counselors and teachers from Butte High, Butte Central, & Highlands College promote the scholarship program to their students and the Montana Technological University TRIO Student Support Services program helps to facilitate the award and disbursal of funds to the NEW OREDIGGERS.
