The Fran Rader Memorial TRIO Scholarship
The Fran Rader Memorial TRIO Scholarship was established in remembrance of its namesake, who participated in one of the first Upward Bound Summer Academies in Montana in 1965. Her time in TRIO had a profound effect on her life as she learned the importance of higher education, and it fostered in her a deep sense of community. She dedicated her time to the service of others through a lifelong commitment to civic engagement. This award honors a TRIO student who balanced their high school studies with volunteering their time and skills to those in need in their community.

Established in 2020, this scholarship is funded by the Upward Bound Coordinators. This scholarship is awarded to the Upward Bound Scholar who has shown dedication to the program, exceeded expectations, and embodies the true meaning of being an Upward Bound Scholar.

Montana Technological University has a special obligation to the youth of Butte. It’s our goal to put more of the city’s sons and daughters on the path to a college degree and a bright future. Many of these young men and women will be the the first in their families to attend college. We want to give them the chance to BE THE FIRST! They have what it takes to succeed, mirroring the qualities that make Butte itself such a special place: strong family values, a tireless work ethic, a purposeful, goal-oriented outlook and a knack for getting things done.
The Silver Bow Tavern Association is proud to announce the 2020 SBTA Scholarship recipients. This is the 5th year that the SBTA has sponsored scholarships for students from Butte High, Butte Central & Highlands College raising the total of scholarships provided our local students to $26,000.
The 2020 Scholarship recipients are:
Jenna Sanders, Kaelan Doherty, Sean Foley, Teagan Peters, Lucas Kingston, Wolfgang Doty-Basel and Trevor Neumann.
The scholarships are funded by the dues that SBTA members pay and were established to provide financial assistance to deserving students from the Butte community. The generosity of the SBTA members cannot be overstated during the current COVID pandemic. Even though their businesses suffered during the lockdown and the uncertainty that has followed, they matched the funds that they have provided to the previous recipients. More often than not, more than 5 scholarships are generously awarded.
Counselors and teachers from Butte High, Butte Central, & Highlands College promote the scholarship program to their students and the Montana Technological University TRIO Student Support Services program helps to facilitate the award and disbursal of funds to the NEW OREDIGGERS.
